Council clears Lager Run for Hurrell Field, honors retiring preservation commissioner
Listen
Mayor Patrick presented a proclamation thanking Sarah Gibbons for 15 years of service on the Historic Preservation Commission, including as vice chair since 2011, praising her work with residents and applicants on preserving the historic district. On a councilor's behalf, it was reported that the Commission had also received a virtual presentation on Tesla solar roof tiles — panels shaped like standard shingles or terracotta tile that would let historic-district homeowners add solar without altering their roofline — as well as a presentation from the consultant drafting design guidelines for historic-district homes, with both to be posted online for residents who missed them.
Council approved permitting the Community Fund's "Lager Run" post-race event to be held at Hurrell Field rather than the Herman Street parking lot, per Police Chief Quinn's recommendation for public-safety and nuisance reasons, for Sunday, August 29, 2021, contingent on compliance with then-current CDC guidance and approval of an ABC license. A companion resolution approved the borough's endorsement of the ABC social-affairs-event license application from Mayfield Pattern Partners LLC for the same race, pending completion of a background check. Ordinance 1750, setting non-union employee titles and 2021 salaries, passed first reading and was referred for publication. Routine refund resolutions for tax/utility overpayments and the biweekly payroll resolution also passed.
Public Works reported it had completed storm cleanup and replaced the fuel pump at the public safety building. The department also highlighted two recycling efforts: a plastic-bag collection point at Borough Hall working toward 500 pounds for a donated Trex bench, and an expanding foam-packaging recycling program that now requires three staff members to process (mixed paper/plastic mailer envelopes are not yet accepted). Police reminded residents heading into summer to lock doors and avoid posting travel plans on social media, and highlighted a house-check service for vacationing residents and the "Operation Chill" program rewarding kids for safe bike habits.
What to watch
