COVID-19, According to the Council
The pandemic shows up in council minutes in waves: a scramble in March 2020, over a year of masks, closures and telephonic meetings, a vaccine rollout, a taper by mid-2022 — and then years of small aftershocks: a still-unrepealed emergency clause, a discharged relief fund, a parade that stuck around.

A human throughline, in council's own record
Behind the resolutions and reopening dates, one arc of real loss, community response, and years-later legacy runs through this archive.
From first response to a line-of-duty loss to lingering echoes years later
- 2020-03-09: Town Hall's first pandemic response, the same evening Governor Murphy declares New Jersey's state of emergency: surfaces wiped down repeatedly, one resident at a time at the counter, disposable pens, and the Glen Ridge Pharmacy donating its entire mask stock to the police department.
- 2020-04-27: Sergeant Charles “Rob” Roberts is hospitalized with COVID-19.
- 2020-05-26: The Council's Police Week proclamation honors Sgt. Roberts among roughly 39 national and 5 New Jersey law-enforcement COVID line-of-duty deaths.
- 2021-01-04: Mayor Patrick's year-end address credits residents for a year of sacrifice and kindness — including 13 neighbors who quietly pooled money to buy someone a replacement refrigerator — and urges residents to get vaccinated once they're able.
- 2024-01-02: Two reorganizations later, the outgoing mayor reflects that COVID hit with “no playbook” and no training, yet government still had to keep delivering services through the shutdown.
- 2024-11-25: A tradition born from lockdown outlives the pandemic: the driving Santa parade around town, started during COVID, is still an annual fan favorite.

How this was put together: every council meeting's minutes or transcript from January 2020 through December 2022 was read in full. From 2023 onward, meetings were first checked for covid/coronavirus/pandemic keywords and only hits read directly -- every other meeting is still counted, just with zero events, so the timeline's shape stays honest. COVID-related council actions and discussions were extracted as individual, dated events; purely incidental or boilerplate mentions (a legal-risk clause, a passing biographical aside) were excluded. 57 of 127 meetings in this range had at least one COVID-related event.
Descriptions are grounded in the real minutes/transcript text but are paraphrases, not verbatim quotes. This is a one-time look back, not a live feature — it won't update automatically. See the borough's official agendas & minutes for the current record.
