Glen Ridge Council Approves $12.2M Tax Levy and Affordable Housing Updates Amid Pandemic
Listen
The Glen Ridge Mayor and Council addressed several key issues at their recent meeting, including financial and housing matters amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The council approved the 2020 municipal budget, requiring $12.2 million to be raised by taxes, with the majority funding local services. They also amended a settlement agreement for the Baldwin Street Property, adjusting water allocation terms with the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission. Additionally, the council appointed Community Grants, Planning & Housing, LLC as the borough’s administrative agent for affordable housing and approved an Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plan, part of a court-ordered settlement.
Public safety and community support were also highlighted. Chief Sheila Byron-Lagattuta reported negative COVID-19 test results for herself and public safety employees, praised Lt. Timothy Faranda’s leadership, and thanked the community for supporting Officer Roberts and his family. The Thunderbirds were announced to fly over the area in tribute to healthcare workers and first responders.
Residents can still pay second-quarter taxes online, by mail, or at designated drop boxes, though drop-off programs remain postponed. Public Works crews are working alternating shifts to reduce contact, and garbage and recycling collection continues as usual. The council also authorized tax appeals to ensure fair property assessments and amended the budget to include additional revenues, such as grants and fees.
