Planning Board Recommends Bay Avenue Hospital Site and Baldwin Street Parcels for Redevelopment Designation
Listen
The Planning Board on May 20, 2015 unanimously memorialized its approval of the Proto family's appeal to demolish their fire-damaged shed at 92 Glen Ridge Avenue. Following the May 18, 2015 joint public hearing with the Montclair Planning Board on the H2M-prepared study of the former School of Nursing/Mountainside Hospital site, the board adopted a resolution recommending to the Borough Council that the properties (Block 106 Lot 15 and Block 91 Lot 1) be designated an Area in Need of Redevelopment, with any future redevelopment plan directed to preserve the residential character of adjoining properties and balance ratables against affordable housing. A subcommittee of Fields, Mehrotra and Siegel was formed to oversee a request for proposals for a planning firm to draft the actual redevelopment plan.
Separately, acting on a Council referral (Resolution 82-15, adopted April 27, 2015), the board approved releasing a request for proposals to study three Baldwin Street lots (Block 72, Lots 10, 2 and 3) for potential redevelopment designation. No members of the public commented at this meeting.
