Glen Ridge Mayor and Council Hold Regular Meeting
In their regular meeting, the mayor and council of Glen Ridge addressed several topics including adopting minutes from a previous meeting and discussing various ordinances and resolutions.
Adoption of Minutes
The roll call was taken to confirm quorum. The minutes of the March 23rd, 2026 regular meeting were adopted by all council members with unanimous consent. No further action on these minutes was proposed.
Finance and Administration Committee Meeting
Councillor Anthony Turiano presented an ordinance (1834) requesting an increase in appropriation limits from 2.5% to a maximum of 3.5%, allowing the borough to bank any unused portion for future use. He also proposed two resolutions related to funding claims and certification compliance.
Budget Introduction
Councillor David Lefkowitz introduced the municipal budget, which included $14 million in approved appropriations with approximately $4.6 million outside of the established limits. Councillor Michael Meyer moved and seconded a resolution for the introduction of the municipal budget, scheduled for public hearing on May 11th.
Consent Agenda
Councilman James Cowan requested that all consent agenda items be adopted without further debate. These included resolutions related to various raffles occurring in April and May for different organizations.
Community Affairs and Public Relations Committee Meeting
Councillor Richard Law highlighted a number of community events, including Freeman Gardens’ annual Rake and Bake which had a successful turnout due to clear weather conditions. He also discussed recent surveys conducted on behalf of the borough, as well as a partnership with Montclair and Bloomfield for potential New Jersey Transit service enhancements.
Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting
Councillor Rebecca Meyer reported on the success of the Bloomfield-Glen Ridge Little League program, which included opening ceremonies attended by local officials and representatives from neighboring towns. She encouraged attendance at their website to view recent activities.
Public Safety Committee Meeting
Councilwoman Deborah Mans (Mayor) introduced ordinance 1835 for first reading, amending borough code regarding stop signs at intersections. She also proposed a consent agenda item related to community raffles.
Other Committee Meetings and Reports
Councillors John Malyska (Planner & Development) and James Dunleavy provided brief updates on their respective committees without any official business items.
No new or unfinished business was presented, leading to the adjournment of the meeting. The mayor requested a motion to adjourn the meeting, which was unanimously agreed upon.
The community was reminded that early voting for an upcoming election would be open and encouraged to cast their ballots in person at the borough hall.
