Glen Ridge Mayor & Council members approved the purchase of two 2024 Ford Utility Interceptor police vehicles from Cherry Hill Winner Ford for $110,204.00, buying them through a state cooperative purchasing contract rather than a separate bidding process.

The Council also adopted Ordinance No. 1803, which repeals and replaces the borough's rules on Stop Sign Intersections; no residents spoke at the public hearing held before the vote. Looking ahead, the Planning and Development Committee announced that a public information session on the borough's proposed short-term rental ordinance, covering services like Air B&B, will be held March 20, 2024, and said the borough's Historic Preservation Ordinance will also be revised in the spring.

During public comment, a Sherman Avenue resident submitted a letter objecting to the curbing material used in the Mead and Sherman Avenue road project. Separately, the Council authorized the Glen Ridge Country Club, at 555 Ridgewood Avenue, to hold a fireworks display on its private property between 8:45 and approximately 10:00 p.m. on July 4, 2024. The borough also received a letter from the Bloomfield Land Use Board regarding a public meeting on a proposed water irrigation tank planned for the Country Club property.

Resident Gordon Leavitt told the Council that overgrown bushes at 101 Hillside need to be trimmed back from the sidewalk and that the Hillside Avenue train overpass is in disrepair and needs cleanup.

In other business, Mayor Mans presented a proclamation honoring DPW Fleet Maintenance Supervisor Thomas Allin for 30 years of borough employment, declaring February 27, 2024 "Thomas Allin Day." The Council also approved four raffle license applications, including requests from Central School HSA, Gregory School PTA, and Glen Ridge High School HSA, the latter covering a 50/50 raffle and an off-premise duck race raffle. Councilor Moody, chair of the Community Affairs and Public Relations Committee, reported that a new borough newsletter featuring updates from all departments is in the works.
