Glen Ridge Water Valve Project Cost Climbs Past $963,000 After Council-Approved Change Order
Listen
At its October 13, 2026 meeting, the Glen Ridge Mayor & Council approved a $90,133.16 change order with MSP Construction Corp. for additional water valve work and retrofitting. The original contract had been $870,015, and the addition brings the total project cost to $963,148, a 10.3% increase. The work is being funded through the New Jersey Water Bank.
Council also rejected all bids that had been submitted for a planned "jitney" micro-transit shuttle program, covering its design, setup, and operation. Officials said they are keeping open the option of a separate software and app proposal for the service, with plans to seek a more competitive round of bids at a future date not yet scheduled. In other financial action, the council approved payment of $211,831.69 in current-fund claims, covering costs such as recycling, waste removal, and water utility expenses.
Police Chief Quinn announced the retirement of Detective Sergeant Anthony Mazza, effective October 2, after 21 years with the Glen Ridge Police Department and 4 years of prior service in the Marine Corps. Separately, the town held a ribbon-cutting for Boxcar, a new bus service now available to Glen Ridge residents, timed to coincide with the Portal North rail cutover that shifted commuter rail service to Hoboken.
Council approved two fundraising raffles for local students: a 50/50 raffle by HSA Glen Ridge High School on November 22 to benefit Class of 2027 graduation events, and a 50/50 raffle by the ECF Athletics Booster Club on November 20 to help cover cheerleading competition fees. Public Works crews were also busy around town, replacing a broken guardrail at the Penn Street parking area, rebuilding the catch basin interior at Washington and Douglas, removing a downed tree at 79 Douglas, installing an LED radar chevron sign on Glenridge Avenue, and taking delivery of 50 little leaf linden trees for fall planting.
What to watch
- A new, more competitive round of bidding for the jitney micro-transit service, including the software/app component, has not yet been scheduled.
