Glen Ridge Council Awards Turf Field Contracts, Remembers Longtime Volunteer Robert Bound
Listen
The Glen Ridge Mayor & Council meeting on February 24, 2025, opened with two contract awards for athletic field upkeep. The Borough awarded a $155,375 contract to Double D Turf LLC of Hightstown for verifying and disinfecting athletic turf fields, chosen as the lowest responsible bidder, and a separate $38,192 contract to True Green LP for the Borough's 2025 field maintenance work.
The Council also approved applying for a roughly $35,000 grant from the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office, funded through the Department of the Interior, to pay for an architectural survey of the borough's historic resources. In other property matters, the Council granted an easement to the owners of two Mitchell Place properties, allowing them to keep using about 320 square feet of borough-owned land their driveway had encroached on due to an old surveying error.
On finances, the Council raised the online registration fee for the summer day camp program to $50 to help balance the program's budget, approved a $1,459.49 refund to a resident who had overpaid property taxes, and authorized a bills and warrants payment list that Councilor Leitz said was possibly the smallest he could recall, covering payments to the school district and county. Council members also approved minor transfers between budget accounts to reflect expenses that came in different than originally projected. Separately, the police chief noted that the primary election has been moved from June 3 to June 10 to accommodate a holiday. The Council also approved a raffle license for the Glen Ridge High School HSA to hold a merchandise draw on May 17, 2025.
The meeting also included a moment of remembrance, as Councilor Zimit and Councilman Meyer offered condolences for resident Robert Bound, who died suddenly on February 9th. Bound had served as treasurer of the Freeman Gardens Association, sat on the Shade Tree Commission, was recently appointed to the Planning Board, and was a retired French teacher and fencing coach. The mayor also congratulated organizer Lori Jean and attendees of a trivia night at the Women's Club that raised funds for Mary's Place, and announced that the Repair Cafe, a free drop-in repair service including knife sharpening meant to help residents save money and cut down on waste, would return to the train station that Saturday.
