Council Approves Two Separate Hollywood Film Shoots in One Meeting

Glen Ridge's Mayor and Council approved waivers for two different film productions to shoot in town at their August 10 meeting. The larger item was a waiver for Netflix's untitled spy comedy, currently going by the working title "Spy Duo" and starring Kevin Hart and Henry Cavill, to film at a home on Ridgewood Avenue; the resolution permits setup, filming, and breakdown activity on September 4 (noon to 2 a.m.), September 9 through 11, and September 14 (6 a.m. to 9 p.m.), subject to conditions including insurance, resident and business notification, and police staffing. The production's assistant location manager told the council the shoot had already been scaled back from six days to five, with a planned drone shot dropped, and said 13 of 27 needed neighbor waivers had been signed so far. In a second, separate approval, the council granted a filming-hours waiver to Full Sweep Productions LLC for the comedy "Grown Ups 3," which will film at the Glen Ridge Women's Club August 23 through 27; Councilor Turiano abstained on that vote.

Councilwoman Mayer abstained on the vote to adopt the July 13 meeting minutes. The council also approved several routine social-affairs and raffle permits, including one for the borough's first-ever community Meet & Greet, to be held at Freeman Gardens on Friday, September 25 -- a new type of event, distinct from the borough's existing gatherings.

In committee reports, Councilwoman Lefkovits said the borough's jitney/micro-transit replacement effort continues, with a request-for-proposals to outside transit providers expected to be published by the end of August 2026, followed by a multi-month evaluation period. The council also ratified a $30,784 emergency contract with Montana Construction Corp. for a water main repair on Bloomfield Avenue stemming from a July 1 break, and approved a professional services agreement with Spatial Data Logic (GovPilot) for municipal software, not to exceed $19,890. Police reported a successful Community Night Out event drawing more than 350 people signed in before rain cut the evening short, and reminded residents that the first day of school is September 1.
