Glen Ridge Mayor & Council Meeting Addresses Multiple Issues The recent meeting of the Glen Ridge, NJ Mayor and Council addressed several important matters, including financial resolutions, community events approvals, filming permits, and utility maintenance contracts.
A full quorum was present for the May 13th meeting, with all necessary notices published online as required by law. The meeting opened with a brief recitation of the national anthem followed by Council President LoriJeane Moody's roll call of council members including absent Councilwoman Schmidt and Borough Attorney John Malyska (Meyner & Landis). After confirming the presence of quorum, Mayor Deborah Mans proposed adopting minutes from previous meetings.
The first substantive motion was for Resolution 115-26 which approved claims amounting to $372,729 out of the current fund and $252,753 from the water operating fund. Councilor David Lefkovits moved it with seconded support from Councilor Rebecca Meyer, followed by a roll call confirming its approval.
Councilor John Malyska (Meyner & Landis) then proceeded to move Resolution 116-26 authorizing cancellation of taxes for a wholly disabled veteran. Councilor Richard Law seconded the motion and confirmed its passage after a brief discussion with all councilors voting in favor.
Councilor James Pries moved Resolution 117-26, which authorized tax refunds based on duplicate payment errors. This resolution was also approved unanimously by all present council members.
Moving into community events, Councilwoman Lefkowitz's Finance and Administration Committee discussed several resolutions involving micro-transit services and fundraising events for local organizations. She proposed Resolutions 118-26 and 119-26 for approving catering permits for the Glenridge Community Meet and Greet at Freeman Gardens on September 25th, 2026, as well as a fundraiser event hosted by the Women's Club.
Councilwoman Lefkowitz also introduced Resolution 120-26 for granting a waiver of chapter 9, section 28 filming hour restrictions to support a Netflix production at the Glendale Women's Club. This resolution received unanimous approval from councilors after a brief discussion on public safety and community benefit.
The meeting concluded with Councilman Law's Public Safety Committee discussing resolutions related to the filming permit for Full Sweep Productions LLC (Resolution 125-26) and the raffle license for Lamp Foundation Inc. (Resolution 126-26), both of which received the councilors' approval.
Councilor Steve Zimet, absent from Community Affairs and Public Relations meetings, was thanked for organizing an inaugural community meet and greet on September 25th, scheduled to be advertised widely in local media.
