At its April 6, 2024 meeting, Glen Ridge's Historic Preservation Commission approved seven separate renovation applications, all unanimously among the members present (Greg Lane and Peter Korian were absent throughout). At 4 Appleton Place, owner Lisa Detig received approval to modify several driveway-side windows as part of interior repairs following a house fire several months earlier, with historic sill detailing to be preserved.
Other approvals included a front porch stoop and stair rebuild at 54 Midland Avenue for Donna Stratigis and Dennis Kelly, with conditions barring PVC materials and requiring any pressure-treated wood to be stained; a one-story rear addition reusing a stained-glass window salvaged from another historic house at 7 Laurel Place for Ajeyo and Pompa Banerjee; a window and brick veneer change at 332 Ridgewood Avenue; and a rear porch-to-family-room conversion at 48 Lincoln Street, where the commission and owner compromised on moving window placement a few inches after a debate over sash style.
The largest discussion centered on a two-story rear addition at 57 Woodland Avenue for Sarah and Frank D'Angelo, where commissioners debated roofline, window placement and massing at length before approving it with several design conditions, including centering and resizing windows to better match the historic house. A family room and mud room addition at 18 Ridgewood Avenue was also approved with conditions on window specifications, railing details, and correcting an inaccurate site plan.
