Way casts dissenting vote on Outlook Place window design as another addition is withdrawn
Listen
The commission approved a plan to convert a former three-season porch at 29 Outlook Place, owned by Shea and Ron Bongo, into interior living space by a 5-1 vote. After debating whether the new casement windows should include a center picture window, member Way voted no while member McMahon recused himself; the rest of the commission voted in favor.
Separately, a two-story rear addition proposed for 10 Ardsley Avenue by Carol and Joe Harpster -- a reapplication after an earlier version had been withdrawn -- was withdrawn again after the commission raised concerns about a cantilevered second-floor bathroom that would impact the home's original gambrel roofline, and asked for more detail on porch column and railing treatments. Member Darby recused himself from that application.
The commission unanimously approved two other rear addition projects, both with Chair Herrigel recused: a rear two-story addition at 7 Highland Avenue for Gracious Properties, LLC, with conditions on railing, window, and door detailing, and a similar rear addition at 175 Hawthorne Avenue for Christine and Andrew McNelly, with a condition that new windows match the home's existing smaller bathroom windows.
In housekeeping business, the commission adopted its June 6, 2018 minutes with one abstention from member Darby, correcting a recusal that had been misattributed in the earlier draft.
What to watch
- The Harpster family at 10 Ardsley Avenue may return with a further revised addition design.
- A subcommittee has been set up to review a brick-and-mortar mock-up at 418 Ridgewood Avenue.
