HPC Approves String of Additions Including Conceptual Sign-Off on Large Washington Street Project
Listen
The Historic Preservation Commission's November 2 meeting was a quiet one, with every application approved unanimously and no public comment. The most significant item was a large addition proposed by Eric Baker at 250 Washington Street, which combines a new dormer, changed roofline, revised front entrance, and altered windows on multiple elevations. The commission approved it only "in concept," attaching twelve separate conditions -- including modified dormer size and placement, a more decorative entry roof, revised window sizing on the first and second floors, and new elevation drawings -- all of which must go back through subcommittee before the project can move forward.
Other approved projects included a two-story rear and side addition with Pella wood windows at 21 Argyle Street (Heritage Legacy Holdings LLC), a sunroom conversion and small extension at 60 Ridgewood Avenue (Marisa and Jon Doran), a roof replacement using imitation slate at 328 Ridgewood Avenue (Geoff and Gayle Lipari), window replacements at 18 Summit Street (Elizabeth and Miguel Nieves), and approval of a previously-installed rear vinyl French door at 30 Hillside Avenue (Lillian Shi and Victor Lu), on the condition it be swapped for a wood door with simulated divided lights.
What to watch
- The Washington Street project at 250 Washington Street was approved only in concept; a subcommittee must still work through a dozen open design details, including the dormer, front entrance, and window sizing, before construction plans are final.
