Meeting by video conference on June 10, 2021, Glen Ridge's Board of Adjustment approved a rear-yard setback variance for Conan and Irene Ward of 43 Ridgewood Avenue, who sought to demolish an existing non-weatherized sunporch and expand enclosed first-floor living space. The required rear setback is 25 feet; the Wards proposed 21 feet, 5 inches. Architect Jason Kruezer testified the project had already been approved by Glen Ridge's Historic Preservation Commission and that the expansion would be visible from the side yard along Carteret Street.

During public comment, Stephen Hanley of 56 Hawthorne Avenue raised concerns that the site plan's area map did not reflect boundary information the borough had previously given him during a dispute over tree responsibility on his property. Kruezer responded that the map was intended only to show properties within 200 feet of the application, not to establish precise lot lines, and the board determined the survey was accurate and sufficient for the application. The board voted to approve the variance with no objections raised, and separately discussed a return to in-person meetings, agreeing the next meeting would be held in person. The board also adopted its January 14, 2021 minutes and a resolution of approval for 372 Ridgewood Avenue, with member Sprong abstaining on both.
