At a special meeting called solely to fill a vacancy on the Glen Ridge Board of Education, members voted to appoint Erica Spayd to the open seat effective immediately, holding the position until the board's January 4, 2023 reorganization meeting. Spayd was nominated by Duvall Graham and seconded by Kristen O'Neil after what minutes describe as a lengthy discussion among board members about the candidates. The vote was unanimous among those present -- Campbell, Gottlieb, Graham, O'Neil, St. Auburn, and Ginsburg all voting aye -- with Bonnett, de Leeuw, and Pennington not present for the meeting.

During public comment, resident Kara Dehnad asked how members of the public can become more involved in board conversations. After the appointment vote, resident Ryan Doyle congratulated Spayd and complimented the other candidates who had applied for the seat, and Spayd herself thanked the board for the opportunity. The brief meeting, held in person at the high school media center and livestreamed on YouTube, adjourned shortly after.
