Glen Ridge Council Approves New Police SUV, $4.5 Million in Bills, and Summer Events at July 14 Meeting
Listen
The Glen Ridge Mayor & Council approved the purchase of a new 2025 Ford utility interceptor vehicle from Cherry Hill Winter Ford for $93,743, buying the police vehicle through a state cooperative purchasing agreement rather than a separate bidding process. The council also approved payment of roughly $4.5 million in claims and warrants from the current fund, along with smaller amounts from other funds, including a pass-through payment to the Board of Education. That vote was not unanimous — Councelor Meyer abstained.
On infrastructure, the borough's public safety committee discussed county plans to upgrade five intersections along Bloomfield Avenue, including the Bay Street and Ridgewood Avenue intersections, with the borough expected to weigh in on what improvements it wants to see. Separately, the council approved submitting a grant application and authorized signing an agreement with the New Jersey Department of Transportation to fund the Carter Street Road Improvement Project.
Several community events got the green light. The council approved a pop-up picnic in the Glenn featuring food, beer, and entertainment on Wednesday, July 23, with a rain date of July 24, contingent on approval of an alcohol license. The Glenridge PBA Local 58 received approval for a social affairs permit and an off-premise 50/50 raffle license tied to its fundraiser at the Women's Club on October 2, 2025. The Women's Club also received its own social affairs permit approval for an event in July. The police chief announced that a community National Night Out event will be held at the community pool on Wednesday, August 6, with free food, giveaways, and appearances by local police, firefighters, and Port Authority officers. Finally, Councelor Moody, liaison to the Environmental Advisory Committee, praised the committee's first-ever sustainable garden tour and naturalist lecture on fireflies, noting strong turnout that included visitors traveling from as far as 45 minutes away.
