Country Club Wins Noise Waiver as Council Advances Three New Ordinances

With the full council present, members gave first reading to three ordinances: No. 1763, setting 2022 salary titles and maximums for non-union employees; No. 1764, amending no-parking and school drop-off/time-limited parking rules; and No. 1765, appropriating capital improvement funds for various equipment and projects. The council also approved a resolution to apply for the 2023 NJDOT Municipal Aid Program grant. All votes were unanimous.
The council granted the Glen Ridge Country Club, at 555 Ridgewood Avenue, a temporary waiver of the borough's nighttime noise ordinance for two already-booked events — extending permitted noise until midnight on Friday, June 17 and until 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 — after the club's ballroom was closed for structural repairs, forcing the events outdoors. Chief Quinn reported that the state Attorney General's Office had released its report on the fatal May 10 accident on Bloomfield Avenue, posted to the GRPD Facebook page, and also congratulated the 2022 graduating class.
In committee reports, Deputy Administrator Erik DeLine said Essex County would donate 50 more trees for planting this fall, and councilors thanked staff and volunteers for a successful Community Fund Lager Run. During public comment, resident Raymond Donnelly raised concerns about bollard installation at Carteret Park, restroom access during sports events, and storm drain cover installations.
